OUTREACH ASSISTANTS

Sandstone Montessori will open its doors to its first class of students in the Fall of 2017. Its mission is to educate the whole person, encompassing mental, physical, and social health following the philosophy and method pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori. Each class will be multi-age, and each child will be able to learn at his/her own rate in an atmosphere encouraging freedom and individuality. The School will create a peaceful learning environment for elementary-age children that will foster joy and successful learning. The children will become life-long learners with the ability to transform their worlds.

Purpose

Outreach Assistants are responsible for assisting the Director of Outreach in the implementation of Sandstone Montessori’s marketing/outreach campaign and student recruitment efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with marketing, outreach, and student recruitment efforts
  • Assist with cultivating ties with organizations representing target demographics and attend or organize events for those
  • Assist with creating marketing materials for the school
  • Assist with events designed to inform the community about the school and recruit prospective families
  • Build relationships with prospective students and families

MONTESSORI PRIMARY TEACHER (GUIDE) – Several Positions Available

Responsibilities
  • Assume full responsibility for a Children’s House class that fosters the total development of the child according to the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, and implement all areas of the curriculum according to Montessori guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times.
  • Carry out all procedures, policies, and responsibilities as outlined in the School Staff Handbook.
  • Prepare and maintain the learning environment.
  • Keep accurate and updated records of each child’s development in accordance with the school’s model
  • Maintain an on-going dialogue with parents and conduct scheduled parent conferences during the year.
  • Cooperate with other members of the professional staff.  Actively participate in faculty and all-school staff meetings and professional in-service events.  Fully participate in shared decision-making in areas influencing student success.  Actively lead a committee or team.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect and harmony, emphasizing communication, interdependence, cooperation, and global awareness.
  • Embrace the mission of the Sandstone Montessori to build a diverse and inclusive community of children.
Qualifications
  • Have or be willing to obtain a diploma from a recognized Montessori teacher-training center.
  • Possesses or willing to obtain appropriate Minnesota teaching license.
  • Have a BA or BS degree from a recognized college or university.
  • Montessori teaching experience preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship or legal permanent residence required.
  • Be willing to work collaboratively in peer groups.

CLASSROOM ASSISTANT – Several Positions Available

  • Assist in the development of children’s independence
Qualifications
  • Equivalent of two years of post-secondary education or an A.A. degree; willingness to complete a portfolio demonstrating all paraprofessional competencies; or willingness to take the ParaPro test which measures math and reading skills and obtain a minimum score of 460.
  • Be willing to work collaboratively in peer groups
  • Montessori experience preferred
Current Estimated Hours

8:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday; extended hours may be needed for special events for evenings.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to special education students as described in IEPs.
  • Exhibit reverence, belief, and trust in each child.
  • Work to support and guide each child towards realization of his/her unique potential.
  • Collaborate with general education guides, students, families, related service providers, outside agencies and other team members to promote growth of each student through the planning and implementation of educational programs.
  • Serve as an IEP case manager.
  • Collect data on progress related to goals and objectives for each student; maintain appropriate due process records and reports.
  • Facilitate team meetings to review student progress and develop IEPs.
  • Conduct assessments and draft reports (as needed) adhering to state criteria for special education eligibility.
  • Uphold all federal and state laws in accordance with best practices of a special education teacher.
  • Direct the work of special education paraprofessionals.
  • Facilitate resolution of concerns with students and parents.
Qualifications
  • Current MN special education license
  • Ability to use computerized special education due process software/forms
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both in writing and orally, including using email and web-based applications
  • Be willing to work collaboratively in peer groups
  • Montessori training and experience preferred

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR

The primary function of the administrator is to provide direction and leadership regarding the achievement of the school philosophy, mission, and goals. The administrator will support the operation of the board of directors; act as the school’s educational leader; ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment; manage the financial, physical, and human resources of the school; and maintain positive relationships between the school and its stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  1. Support the operation of the board of directors.
    • Ensure that all policies and directives of the board are effectively implemented through the development and execution of administrative practices.
    • Advise and inform the board through information supported by data and/or facts.
    • Serve as the liaison to the school’s authorizer.
  2. Act as the school’s educational leader.
    • Provide overall leadership to the instructional program and other activities necessary to provide quality instruction.
    • Prepare all documents and reports mandated by state and federal statute and/or requested by stakeholders including, but not limited to, the Department of Education (including STARS, MARRS), the school’s authorizer, and the board.
    • Serve as the school’s assessment coordinator for local and state evaluations.
    • Oversee the provision of student support services (e.g. homeless education, Section 504 services, MTSS),health, and safety programs.
  3. Provide oversight of a safe and nurturing learning environment that facilitates success for students and staff.
    • Build and continually improve a school culture and learning environment that promotes PSRCS mission, vision, and goals.
    • Intervene to address the behavioral needs of individual students.
  4. Manage the financial, physical resources, and human resources of the school in accordance with state and federal statute, school policies, and administrative practices.
    • Identify needs, establish priorities, and implement solutions regarding all school operations.
    • Recommend, for approval by the board, an annual budget.
    • Manage the school’s resources in accordance with the adopted budget.
    • Oversee grants and other fundraising activities.
    • Maintain contracts and contractual compliance on behalf of the board.
    • Assess the needs and direct the maintenance of the facility.
    • Establish and maintain a system of employee recruitment, training, development, supervision, and evaluation of all employees.
  5. Build and maintain positive relationships between the school and its employees, students, parents, and community members.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with all stakeholders to foster understanding, solicit support, and advocate for the school.
    • Create or enhance opportunities all stakeholders to partner with and/or participate in school programs and decision-making.
    • Create and administer the school’s marketing and public relations efforts.
  6. Manage the school office.
    • Make, answer, and direct phone calls.
    • Monitor student attendance.
    • Inventory, purchase and distribute supplies and materials.
    • Collect, organize, and input confidential information to school database.
    • Implement student health procedures including providing first aid as needed.
    • Manage student recruitment and enrollment.
    • Manage and maintain school records.
    • Assist children in school office.
Qualifications

Five years of experience in education, non-profit organizations, or leadership in a similar organization including:

  • Executing plans and effectively managing resources to achieve goals;
  • Using data and evidence to inform decisions and ensure continuous improvement;
  • Engaging, motivating, and empowering others;
  • Building relationships and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders (e.g., students, families, staff members, and the broader community);
  • Hiring, developing, evaluating, and retaining staff;
  • Writing public reports and formal correspondence; and
  • Public speaking.
